Abelian Completes Major Network Upgrade at
Block Height 464,000

As we step into 2026, the Abelian team would like to sincerely thank our miners, holders, builders, and community members for their patience, trust, and continued engagement. Network upgrades are never easy moments, and we recognize that recent delays and changes have required extra understanding from everyone involved. We truly appreciate that support.
At block height 464,000, Abelian successfully completed one of the most significant upgrades in the history of the Layer 1 network. This hard fork was carefully designed to strengthen Abelian’s long-term security, decentralization, and versatility, while laying a solid foundation for future applications and ecosystem growth.
Internally, the team refers to the block height 464,000 upgrade as the “Aconcagua Fork.” Named after Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, the highest peak in the Americas and the Southern Hemisphere, the codename reflects the scale of this milestone for the Abelian network.
A Thoughtful Step Forward for Network Security and Decentralization
The core of this upgrade is the introduction of hybrid Proof-of-Work (PoW), a design choice aimed at expanding participation and reinforcing resilience at the protocol level.
Unlike traditional PoW blockchains that rely on a single mining algorithm, Abelian now supports two quantum-resistant PoW consensus protocols simultaneously:
- Abel-ETHash, a GPU-friendly algorithm that continues to support existing miners
- Abel-Nakamoto, a CPU/ASIC-friendly algorithm with a clear path toward future ASIC support
Every 256 seconds, a new block is mined using either Abel-ETHash or Abel-Nakamoto, each with an equal probability. Over time, this means that on average, each protocol mines one block every two blocks, receiving 64 ABEL per block.
This balanced approach is intentional. By diversifying mining participation across GPUs, CPUs, and eventually ASICs, the network becomes more decentralized, more secure, and more resistant to concentration risk, while preserving fairness across different types of contributors.
We understand that this transition changes the mining landscape, particularly for GPU miners. While the share of rewards per algorithm adjusts under the hybrid model, this design ensures the long-term sustainability and security of the Abelian network, which ultimately benefits miners, holders, and the ecosystem as a whole.
What Comes Next After the Aconcagua Fork
Following the successful Aconcagua Fork on January 1, 2026, the Abelian tech team has taken the next step by publishing the Abelian node source code (abec) to the public. This release enables the community to review and explore the detailed implementation of Abelian’s hybrid Proof-of-Work design, which combines ABEL-ETHash, a GPU-friendly mining algorithm, with ABEL-Nakamoto, a CPU/ASIC-friendly alternative. By open-sourcing the node implementation, Abelian continues to reinforce its commitment to transparency, decentralisation, and community participation.
The source code is publicly available on GitHub:

In parallel, Abelian is expanding access to the network through CPU solo mining via the ABEL-Nakamoto algorithm. Pre-compiled binary executables are now available across major platforms, including Windows, macOS (both Intel and Apple silicon), and Linux, enabling anyone to run a node and mine ABEL using standard computing hardware.

Moving forward, a CPU mining pool is expected to be introduced in the coming weeks, offering an additional option for participants who prefer pooled mining. With the CPU mining source code also open to the public, Abelian welcomes hardware enthusiasts and developers to explore optimisations and even build custom hardware accelerators tailored for mining ABEL via the ABEL-Nakamoto algorithm.
Together, these post-upgrade releases represent a meaningful step in broadening network accessibility while maintaining Abelian’s long-term focus on openness, resilience, and community-driven innovation.
Introducing Cloaked AUT: Privacy-Preserving, Quantum-Resistant Tokens
In addition to the hybrid PoW upgrade, this hard fork introduces a major enhancement to the Abelian User Token (AUT) protocol.
For the first time, community users can issue their own privacy-preserving, quantum-resistant tokens, known as Cloaked AUT.
With Cloaked AUT:
- Token transaction amounts are fully encrypted
- Only the recipient can see the transferred amount
- Public observers cannot determine transaction values
In simple terms, Cloaked AUT enables anyone to create privacy-focused tokens directly on Abelian, extending the network’s privacy guarantees beyond the base layer and into user-defined assets.
Cloaked AUT is already available via the CLI abewallet, and support for desktop wallets and the Abelian Pro mobile app is coming soon.
Looking Ahead Together
This upgrade represents a meaningful step forward for Abelian, but it is also part of a longer journey. Our focus remains on building a blockchain that is secure by design, decentralized in practice, and resilient against future quantum threats.
To our miners and holders: your contributions matter, and your patience during this transition has not gone unnoticed. The team remains committed to clear communication, steady progress, and responsible long-term decisions that support the health of the entire network.
As the Abelian community grows in 2026 and beyond, we invite everyone to continue building, mining, experimenting, and sharing knowledge together.
Thank you for being part of the Abelian journey.
